Restaurant review: Mr Capri

Mr. Capri: A hidden gem in the West Village

Brunch lovers, get ready! We have a new spot that is sure to impress. Mr Capri is a charming Italian restaurant located on 8th street in the West Village, and we couldn’t be more excited to share our latest culinary adventure with you.

Mr. Capri is owned by Alejandro, who also runs another location called Bocca (check out our latest blog post to know what to order!) We were greeted by Rodrigo as well as the rest of the team with warm smiles and, of course a typical brunch cocktail to start the day: an espresso martini. Let’s just say, the brunch experience had officially begun. And what a brunch it was!

Mr Capri at first-sight

The first thing we noticed was the European vibe in the restaurant. You know those places that just have that certain “je ne sais quoi”? Well, Mr. Capri is one of them. Blue and white, wood, cute decorations: that’s the vibe of Mr.Capri.

Mr Capri’s Insalate

As we perused the menu, we decided to start with the Insalata Centocolori, a fresh salad with romaine lettuce, avocado, and cherry tomatoes, dressed with lemon and olive oil. The salad was light and crisp, the perfect starter for what was to come. We also decided that we had to have a fresh aspect to our meal.

Mr Capri’s Menu

We sat down, and were immediately served with delicious bread and focaccia served with a homemade marinated olive oil.

A pleasant surprise and a taste of Italy right in the heart of the city. The olive oil mixture was made with garlic, pepper, zucchini, and eggplant, was a standout and something we’ve never experienced before.

Mr Capri stars

Our favorite dish of the day was the Parmigiana di Melenzane e Uova, a 3-cheese baked eggplant parmigiana with two sunny-side up eggs and tomato sauce. The eggplant was beyond words and the melted cheese added an extra layer of flavor. And, let’s not forget about those eggs!

We also ordered a margerita crostone (somewhat of a flatbread/pizza) and pro tip, the chef suggested adding prosciutto. Of course it was a match made in heaven. The thin, crispy dough paired very well with the eggplant and eggs for an amazing combination! The combination of the light salad, crispy (and carb-y) flatbread and hearty eggplant egg was the perfect Sunday brunch in Italy (technically NYC, but close enough.)

Mr Capri sweet touch

And finally, the dessert. As pancakes lovers, we had to try the pancakes, even if it wasn’t an Italian dish. The pancakes were good, but not the best we’ve ever had. But hey, the rest of the meal was so impressive, we’ll let it slide.

The atmosphere at Mr. Capri

Pperfect for a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. The charming decor and European vibe creates a cozy and inviting ambiance, perfect for a romantic dinner or a casual brunch with friends. And, don’t forget about their wine tasting night every Wednesday, where you can sample a variety of wines and enjoy great company.

Mr Capri’s final word?

If you’re searching for a charming Italian restaurant with fantastic food and a European vibe, Mr. Capri is a must-visit. The friendly staff, delicious food, and relaxing atmosphere make it the perfect spot for any occasion.

We highly recommend this hidden gem in the West Village, and we can’t wait to go back. Happy dining!

So, there you have it, folks! Another culinary adventure in the books. Mr. Capri has officially made its way to the top of our list, and we can’t wait to go back. Until next time, happy eating!
